There have been many movies with great animal characters. Let us take a look at the top 10 best movies (Including Shorts) with animals of all times. They include The Lion King, The Fox and the Hound, or any other movie that is loved by both kids and adults.

1. The Lion King (1994)

Lion king takes pride of place as the most popular movie with animals. It was released in 1994. This film has an overall ranking of 9.2/10 on IMDb’s site and a Metascore of (89) on Metacritic’s site.

This movie has many characters with extremely different personalities, such as Simba, Nala, Scar, Mufasa and the hyenas Shenzi, Banzai and Ed. The Lion King is very animated and colorful.

The main character is Simba who is a lion cub living in Pride Rock under the protection and care of his dad, Mufasa. After Mufasa’s tragic death, his evil brother Scar convinces Simba to run away from the Pride Lands. The movie progresses with Simba’s life as he meets new people and finds out that he is alive.

2. The Wrong Trousers (1993)

This is the second best movie with animals of all times. It was released in 1993 and has an overall score of 8.8/10 on IMDb’s site and a Metascore of (90) on Metacritic’s site.

It is a short film with only 18 minutes but it is very enjoyable. It features two characters; Wallace and Gromit, who are living happily in their home until one day Wallace loses his pants that are stolen by an evil penguin named Featherby. The action continues until the end where it is revealed that the penguin was actually looking for his runaway dog who was a former companion of Wallace, who had betrayed him earlier by stealing all his cheese.

3. Finding Nemo (2003)

This Disney animation movie has an overall rating of 9.0/10 on IMDb’s site and a Metascore of (97) on Metacritic’s site. It was released in 2003.

The movie takes place in the underwater world, under the surface, which has been invaded by a pair of clown fish named Dory and Nemo. This pair is looking for a suitable home to live together with their extended family.

The movie is very diverse and has several more characters that include Marlin, Gill, Crush, Hank and Destiny who helps the two clown fish reunite with each other. The movie shows how Marlin acquires memory loss while looking for his son. The plot line is different from ordinary Disney movies and that makes it one of the best movies with animals of all times.

4. A Grand Day Out (1989)

A Grand Day Out (1989) is a short film with only 10 minutes. Its total score is 8.9/10 on IMDb’s site and an overall Metascore of ( 85) on Metacritic’s site. It was released in 1989.

It is a British comedy that features various animals and people who are very busy during the summer holiday in London. The animals include bus conductor, taxi driver, police officers, a couple of tourists and even a Victorian lady who is going to buy some flowers from her local florist shop and arrives there on the bus by mistake. The movie has many funny scenes as everyone comes to the same conclusion that it should be an A Grand Day Out for everyone.

5. The Jungle Book (1967)

The Jungle Book is a 1967 American animated musical film produced by Walt Disney based on the children’s novel by Rudyard Kipling. When the son of the last Mowgli, Mowgli has been kidnapped by jungle animals, he and his new friend named Shere Khan set out to rescue him.

The movie is very interesting with various characters and there are several jungle animals with interesting personalities such as Baloo, Bagheera, Kaa, King Louie etc. It has a total score of 8.7/10 on IMDb’s site and a Metascore of 88 on Metacritic’s site. The movie is very funny and entertaining for both kids and adults who love watching animal movies.

6. Ice Age (2002)

Ice Age is a 2002 American computer-animated comedy adventure film, produced by Blue Sky Studios, and distributed by 20th Century Fox. It is the first installment in the Ice Age series. The movie has an overall score of 8.8/10 on IMDb’s site and a Metascore of (86) on Metacritic’s site.

The movie features two main characters, Sid, a sloth and Manny, a woolly mammoth. They are forced to leave their families after the local saber-toothed tigers caused a cave in that destroyed their homes several years ago.

7. Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005) is a British stop motion animation comedy film, and is part of the Wallace & Gromit series. It was released in 2005.

It is a movie that has various funny scenes and characters but what makes it special are the two main characters that are Wallace and Gromit. While on vacation, they visit a place called ‘The Grand Emporium’ where they buy many things including an atomic clock which can be used as an alarm clock for their home instead of having to wake up in the middle of the night and find out what time it is. The alarm clock comes with some bugs though.

8. One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961)

This is a 1961 American animated film based on the book of the same title by Dodie Smith. Cruella de Vil is a rich woman who wants to own all dalmatians puppies in the world. Her objectives are to destroy them and enjoy their skins. The dogs escape from her hands but they are followed by hunters and bring them back to her. However, with the help of several pets like dogs, birds, cat etc., Pongo and Missis save their puppies.

The movie has several characters such as Roger, Anita, Cadpig, Jock etc. It has an overall rating of 8.6/10 on IMDb’s site and a Metascore of (58) on Metacritic’s site. It is a good family movie with great characters that will keep you entertained for many hours.

9. The Secret of NIMH (1982)

The Secret of NIMH (1982) is a movie based on the book “Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH” by Robert C. O’Brien. It is also about the adventures of Mrs. Frisby as she seeks help from four laboratory rats to save her home from a farmer’s plow.

The movie features several characters like Justin, Mr. Ages, Nicodemus, Jenner and Brutus but what makes it special are its main characters named Mrs. Frisby and the Great Owl who teaches her how to fly for her escape plans to be successful.

10. The Jungle Book (2016)

The Jungle Book (2016) is a live-action adaptation of the Disney’s 1967 classic of the same name. The movie is about Mowgli, a man-cub who has been raised by a wolf pack in a jungle in India. He is now 10 years old and has to return to the human village, but his true home is in the jungle with Baloo, Bagheera and all other animals that look after him.

The whole movie revolves around friendship and bonds that form between people and animals. If you are looking for some entertaining movie to watch with your friends or family, this one will do just fine.
