9 Cat Products We Couldn’t Live Without

by | Apr 26, 2021 | Pet Supplies

We love our feline friends and want to show them the proper attention they need. But at the same time, it can be hard to figure out which cat products to buy for them. These 10 cat products will help keep your kitty happy and healthy while bringing you joy as well.

1. Cat water fountain

Fountains are a wonderful way to keep cats happy and healthy. It’s designed to not only purify plain water, but also make this healthy drink more attractive to your cat. The water isn’t as bad as it sounds; it comes out of the fountain in a flowing stream, creating a natural sound that entices cats.

But fountains is more than just an accessory. Cats need clean water for different reasons than we do, and keeping your kitty happy with tasty water will make him or her feel more comfortable and less stressed on a daily basis. Plus, wasting less time drinking out of dirty bowls encourages your kitty to drink more on his or her own every morning.

2. Litterbox

It’s a simple concept: a clean box for your cat to do his or her business. The litterbox is placed in an area of your house designated for this purpose. If your cat has no privacy, it can be difficult to keep the box clean. But after you place a litterbox in this designated area, it doesn’t have to be used every day anymore. Your cat will only use it when he or she needs to go (and shouldn’t have an accident in your chairs and sofas).

For those who have multiple cats, you might even find automatic boxes available that are triggered by motion sensors.

3. Catnip

Catnip is a herb that most cats love. When they smell it, they get all happy and energetic. Munchy, munchy! It’s even been proven to reduce stress in felines, which makes it perfect for younger cats or senior ones who need a little bit of relief from their daily lives.

The best cat toys, when done right, are the ones that genuinely entice cats and excite their minds. The more your kitty plays with it, the more interested in it he or she will become. But even though catnip toys are quite famous, they can be dangerous for kittens and younger cats who don’t have a keen sense of smell yet. That’s why it is safer to use mousetraps instead for kittens under 5 months old or rescue cats who have never been exposed to any type of catnip before.

4. Scratching pad

Cats need to scratch — it’s how they keep their claws sharp and healthy. It’s also why they claw on your furniture and occasionally throw the couch across the room. They like to play, and that’s what cats do best. Scratching can also help reduce stress and aggression, which is why it’s important for older cats to have a nice place to scratch on.

That being said, scratching elements should be taken into account when buying a scratching pad. It shouldn’t be too soft or too hard; it should be in a nice neutral zone between “tooth-breakingly hard” and “soft enough that it won’t damage your cat.” A good item should be sized correctly and give your cat a healthy place to scratch all in one.

5. Cat tunnels

Cats like to play in their own space, and tunnels give them that. If your cat can’t get to the window, he or she will most likely find a tunnel to crawl through instead. Not only are they fun for your cat, but they also keep him or her healthy as well. Healthy cats need clean air and fresh air to breathe, which is why it does your little feline a favor by giving him or her a nice place to play in.

The best cat tunnels are ones that are made from soft and safe materials. These are usually made out of canvas or cloth, but you can find others in fabric as well.

6. Cat Bed

No, your cat doesn’t need a big bed with a pillow and blanket inside just like the one you sleep on every night. But he or she does need it to be the right size for both comfort and pleasure. Cats love to sleep on comfy pillows and blankets, plus it gives them a place to play in as well.

But if you’re having a hard time finding one that fits correctly, try getting a pillow and/or blanket made out of catnip. Your kitty will love the smell, and it will provide them with a nice place to sleep at night.

7. Cat Perch

A cat perch is just like a cat bed – but this one is meant for your kitty to relax on. It’s usually meant for the older and more active cats, but you can find other sizes as well. When it comes to the most important part — comfort — these perches are about as close as you can get to one that has been made just for your cat.

The best ones are the ones that are made out of soft and safe materials. They’re usually made out of canvas or other types of cloth, but if you can find one made out of catnip, all the better.

8. Cat carrier bag

It’s always a good idea to have a cat carrier bag handy. These work great for cats who are afraid of traveling in vehicles, and they also can be used in a pinch if you need to carry your cat for any amount of time.

A great one should have a sturdy strap, and it is made out of materials that are comfortable for your kitty. It should also be large enough that your cat can walk around inside comfortably. The best ones are those that can zip closed, as well as come with a handle for carrying.

9. Food bowls

Food bowls are a must-have item for any cat who loves to eat. Every cat owner knows this, but it’s also one of those things that are somehow always forgotten about. As a result, your kitty may be forced to visit the kitchen or eat off the floor in favor of other options. Either way, it’s a great way for your little feline to eat and play at the same time!

The best food bowls are made out of soft and safe materials, and they should be large enough for your kitty to easily reach up with his or her paws. Most importantly, these should be easy to wash and clean as well.
